Whakatāne District Council is re-opening a number of additional public toilet facilities across the District from today. The move is to cater for more people being out in the community under Alert Level 3 conditions.
The reopening of these facilities comes with rigorous and costly cleaning regimes. The Council is urging the public to follow careful hand washing and hygiene practices when using the toilets and to be considerate of others. The Council also stresses that public playgrounds remain closed at Alert Level 3.
The toilets being reopened are:
· Thornton Beach South – Thornton
· Mahy Reserve Surf Club – Ōhope
· Otao South Reserve, Harbour Road – Ōhope
· Port Ōhope Wharf
· West End Beach – Ōhope
· The Heads, Muriwai Drive – Whakatane
· River Edge Skatepark, McAlister Street – Whakatāne
· Edgecumbe Domain, College Road – Edgecumbe
Those toilets are additional to the following toilets which were open under Alert Level 4, mainly for essential service workers such as truckies:
· Maraetōtara – Ōhope
· Boon Street – Whakatane
· Kopeopeo, James Street – Whakatane
· Eivers Road –Whakatāne (Warren Cole Walkway end)
· State Highway 2 – Matatā
· Jack Knowles Reserve, State Highway 2 – Taneātua
· Eivers Park, State Highway 30 – Te Teko
· Centennial Park, State Highway 38 – Murupara
