Bachelor NZ runner-up Naz Khanjani out of boxing bout

Illness has prompted Bachelor NZ runner-up Naz Khanjani to throw in the towel, one day before her boxing debut.

Khanjani has an infection and has been hospitalised so her fight with DJ Lily Taurua, on the undercard of Joseph Parker’s bout with Solomon Haumono on Thursday, has been called off.

She is in hospital in Christchurch, with organisers Duco Events saying she was too unwell to fight, and her safety was a prime consideration.

The former star of TV’s The Bachelor this week walked out of a television interview to promote her boxing debut.

Promoters Duco Events then maintained she was ready to go for her ring debut, optimism which has now proved misguided.

Less than an hour before the planned weigh in, Duco said Khanjani was ill and would spend the night in hospital on an iodine drip.

She had been told the fight was off, and was very upset, Duco said.

Khanjani had walked out of an interview with Story host Heather du Plessis-Allan – a clip the TV3 programme is pushing on social media to promote its interview with Khanjani.

In the clip, Khanjani was punching a heavy bag held by du Plessis-Allan when she abruptly left, followed by Duco Events manager Craig Stanaway.
