The nurturing of future paddlers is paying off for Akraranga waka ama club according to Caleb Wharepapa of Te Whanau a Apanui. Caleb Wharepapa recently participated in the Waka Ama National Competitions held on Lake Karapiro in Waikato on the weekend and mentioned that the younger waka ama paddlers of the club displayed great skill and ability at this year’s Waka Ama National competitions by making the men’s open final for the first time.
